As occupational and physical therapists, what are you’re opinions on infants tummy sleeping in relation to their physical development?
Welcome to our community!
The first priority is always safety and because back sleeping has been proven to correlate with lower rates of SIDS, putting babies on their backs to sleep is absolutely necessary.
As far as their physical development, more has come to light that since back to sleep began, not spending enough time on their bellies can lead babies to be delayed in physical development and that’s why tummy time during awake times is so important.
Again, while back sleeping has created new things we have to keep an eye on, health and safety always come first.
