Do you remember doing chores as a kid? Most children don’t love taking out the trash or making their beds, but chores are actually super important for building skills like responsibility, time management, and independence. In fact, kids can begin helping out around them house as toddlers! Check out our list of chores your kids can do based on their ages. Every family is different so pick and choose which ones work for you or even add some to the list!

2-3 years old

  • Pick up toys and books
  • Put trash in the garbage can
  • Put laundry in the hamper
  • Put clothes in drawers

4-6 years old

  • Feed the pets
  • Set and clear the table
  • Match socks
  • Fold towels
  • Remove dirty sheets from the bed
  • Wipe down the table
  • Water the plants

7-8 years old

  • Fold and put away the laundry
  • Sweep
  • Vacuum
  • Dust
  • Take out the trash
  • Wipe mirrors, windows, and counters
  • Bring in the mail/newspaper
  • Help prepare simple meals
  • Empty/load the dishwasher
  • Rake leaves
  • Weed the garden
  • Walk the dog
  • Make the bed
  • Put away groceries
